Adventures In Pregnancy

Today is the first day of my 36th week. I have made it thus far and there seems to be no signs that the babies are considering coming any time soon.

We have had a few minor trips to the hospital for high blood pressure (no pre-eclampsia) and decreased fetal movement (Baby B was just taking an extended nap but apparently at the hospital, they both were "moving around like truckers") but no labour yet. I do have mild, non-painful contractions that are fairly regular but the nurses just call them "tightenings" and are not considered signs of actual labour.

In terms of labour preparations though, my body is changing fairly rapidly for that. The babies have "dropped", meaning they're snuggling closer into my pelvic bone, which also means I have to use the bathroom even more now. My pubic bone is also stretching in preparation for labour and that is probably the most painful of these changes. I don't think my uterus has gotten any bigger though. The space inside the uterus is rapidly getting smaller and when the babies move you can see these great big stretches across my stomach. When I'm sitting and it's very quite, you can actually hear my back crack when the babies kick. It sounds like knuckles being cracked but in my back. And if I thought my feet were swollen before, they are REALLY swollen now. It took me literally almost five minutes to put on my boots by myself a couple of days back.

We have experienced another event that almost rivals the fiasco on Valentine's Day last year. If you don't know what happened, just read my note on Facebook. It involved poo, a clogged toilet, and Michael running away to his call shift. Anyway, so my back was really achy yesterday and I asked Michael to please take me out of misery and give me a back massage to relieve the pain and pressure. Michael does NOT give good massages and he makes no qualms about hiding that fact. He just decided to massage me in a way that he thought would feel good on himself.........big mistake. After awhile, my groans of pain turned to silence because for some reason every time he pushed on this one spot it would trigger a fairly large gag response. I was trying my darn hardest not to gag. Too late, I don't think I've every had to run to the bathroom that quickly, while pregnant, as I did yesterday. His massage sent me to the toilet with projectile vomiting. Everything I had in the last two hours came gushing back up. As you can imagine, Michael is off the hook forever when it comes to giving me back massages.

Michael is officially on his LOA for 6 weeks. He is going around cleaning the house right now since he doesn't want to watch the the Olympic skating exhibition gala on TV right now. I'm going to say that he's doing it to make up for the barfing episode he caused yesterday. Hehe!!

Only two more days before the 2010 Olympics wraps up in Vancouver. I'm going to miss watching the firework display every night on our balcony from LiveCity Yaletown. These Olympic games have been pretty impressive. Unfortunately in my state, I haven't been able to take in any events in person or visit the different houses and sites but Michael has driven me around to look at some of the buildings and he himself has gone out with the camera to capture some of these places for my viewing pleasure. What a good husband!!

Any Day Now......Please???

I've surpassed my mini goal of making it to 32 weeks and having these babies in the year of the Tiger rather than the Ox. Tomorrow will be my 35th week and I'm ready for them to be born. Most singletons will make it to their 40 weeks but for twins, they are usually delivered before the 38th week to avoid health complications due to space restrictions etc. My scheduled c-section is on March 10th (37.5 weeks) but I just cannot wait that long.

I had my bi-weekly ultrasound on Monday and the tech calculated the weights of the babies for me. Are you ready? Baby A is 5lbs 7oz while Baby B is 5lbs 3oz. These are big babies considering that they are only in their 34th week and that they have to share the same placenta. If it were one baby, it would almost be 11lbs!! As you can imagine, I'm ready for them to come out!! My body aches like it never before. I've never really had back pain till now and it's to the point where I'll allow Michael to try and massaging out the pain. If you ever had a Michael massage, you'll know it is not pleasant. Surgical hands, yes, massaging hands, definitely not. Sometimes when Baby B kicks, you can hear my ligaments pop because he's that big. *sigh*

The locum Ob says my mantra should be to keep the buns in the oven till 37 weeks. Clearly she's never had twins before. I don't even know if she has kids. All I can remember is that my regular Ob said if I made it to 34 weeks then that's great for the babies in terms of development.

Michael is also very desperate for them to arrive now also, but for different reasons. He is doing a two week rotation at BC Children's Hospital before the start of his 6 week LOA and it's really taking a toll on him. I think having to see an 8 month old go through open heart surgery is tough enough but knowing that he has two little ones on the way makes it just that much harder. Every night before he sleeps, he'll tell (it's more like beg) the babies to start labour and every morning he drags his feet to work.

For the most part, everything is pretty much ready for the twins to make their debut......oh, except Chinese middle names, but I don't think we're in any hurry for that. The nursery is done. I have most of the essentials like diapers, clothing, etc.

It's time.......any day now.......PLEASE!

Blessed Be Your Name

Blessed be your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name

Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's all as it should be
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
